Mount Batur (1,717 m) is an active volcano inside a vast caldera in the UNESCO Batur Global Geopark. The climb takes around two hours by headlamp with a guide from the local trekking association, timed to reach the rim for first light over Lake Batur, Mount Agung and, on clear mornings, Rinjani on Lombok. Breakfast is served on the rim beside the steam vents, and the descent ends at natural hot spring pools on the lakeshore.

Moderate fitness needed; the upper trail is steep with loose volcanic sand.
Bring a warm layer and a light rain jacket — it is around 12–15°C on the rim before dawn.
Wear trainers or hiking shoes with good grip.

The climb may be rerouted or postponed if the volcano alert level rises.
