A day in Bali's volcanic highlands, where the air is cool and the clove and coffee plantations run down to three crater lakes. Begin at Pura Ulun Danu Beratan, the 17th-century water temple that appears to float on Lake Beratan, pass beneath the Handara gate, and look down on Lakes Buyan and Tamblingan from the Wanagiri ridge. After lunch in Munduk, a forest path leads to the twin falls of Banyumala and a clear pool for swimming.
