Pura Besakih, at around 1,000 metres on Mount Agung, is the largest and holiest temple complex in Bali, with more than twenty temples climbing the mountain. On the way, the Kertha Gosa pavilion in Semarapura shows the Kamasan-style painted ceilings of the old Klungkung court. The afternoon is spent in the Sidemen valley, walking the rice fields with a local guide and visiting a family workshop weaving songket and endek cloth.

Mount Agung is clearest in the morning and in the dry season (April to October).
